Journey to Denmark and Sweden, #1
I think this had to have been one of the better trips I've ever taken. Even the parts that didn't go so well nonetheless worked-out.
We arrived in Copenhagen after a long flight via Seoul and Paris. (Charles de Gaulle Airport seemed surprisingly lousy, but it was my first chance to use Air France.) We were scheduled to have two days in Denmark, at the end of which we'd meet-up with some of my distant cousins in Helsingor before we'd take the ferry across and then make our way to Stockholm via car and steamship.
We arrived late in the evening and were exhausted by the time we got to the hotel. We woke-up to a great breakfast and promptly went-out to look-around the city, including a morning trip around the canals. Including a quick sail by the back of the Little Mermaid Statue. Apparently, everyone who goes to Copenhagen feels that they have to get their picture taken alongside it.
Based on the crowd, we felt that it wasn't worth fighting our way through the throng to get there, so we decided to strike that one off of our list of places to go. It wasn't that big anyway.
Regrettably, we didn't have very much time to spend in Copenhagen. But we did enjoy some rather decent food.
The city was very walkable. On a whim, we hopped-off the canal boat nearby one of the markets that we wished to see. We were able to stroll around comfortably and get nearly everywhere on foot without using a taxi.
I don't think I would go out of my way to visit Copenhagen again. But real Danish pastries? Those are worth a try.
Next up: Helsingor and Kronborg Castle.
